APC Raises over $13K for GSA PDF Print E-mail

The 4th annual Fall Fundraiser took place in Pickell Hall on Saturday, October 24, 2009.  With 168 in attendance, the fundraiser generated $13,268 with the proceeds benefiting The Good Shepherd Alliance, a local nonprofit that helps the homeless.  A check was presented to GSA on Sunday, November 22, 2009.

GSAevent The APC band’s impressive renditions of the 50’s hits was the highlight of the evening, with Rachel and Danny Remington taking the lead vocals on most of the songs, while Chip Block’s earnest readings of Sharyl Peluso’s pie story embellishments provided plenty of entertainment during the pie auction.

The main course of the dinner was catered by our very own Rubino’s and featured a delicious choice of Ziti Bolognese, Chicken Parmesan and Ziti Quatro Formaggi.  Safeway donated bread for the tables and the youth made chocolate sundaes with whipped cream and cherries for dessert.

Laurie Uhl, one of the leaders of the fundraiser, did an excellent job of raising donations for the silent auction from local businesses, while many others in the church helped with decorations and serving.  A number of APC groups also donated to the silent auction; the Prayer Shawl ministry donated several beautiful pieces and the APC Power hour kids made a Body Art Bible verse and several Thanksgiving Baskets (“Everything you need for a Thanksgiving meal but the Turkey!”)

Several members of the APC youth did an impressive job of driving up prices during the pie auction.  All the pies sold well, with a special apple pie from Dawn Manausa bringing $150, and several other pies selling for over $100 each.  In the silent auction, a weekend at a Lake Anna Vacation home was the top seller at $400, while a hand painted rocking chair sold for $175.  Two nights at the Marriott sold for $200, and a signed Redskins football brought in $132.

QMT Associates, Inc., a local wind chime company, once again set up shop in the welcome center and donated almost $1000 of Corinthian Bells wind chimes to the event.  All in all, everyone who attended seemed to have a good time.  As one visitor commented, “I always knew this church was here, but I didn’t realize you had so much fun!”
