2013 HS Mission Trip to Philly (7/14-20/2013)

Broad Street Ministry, Philadelphia, PA (July 14th – 20th, Cost: $425, Leaders Needed) HS = Students going into 9th Grade – Graduated Seniors

Summer trips can be one of the most powerful and influential experiences in the life of a student. From the relationships that are built and the memories that are made to the experience of discovering Christ in ways they may never have expected. A summer trip will expose a student to their youth leaders, their peers in youth group and the message of the gospel in a way you simply can’t here at home!

The Broad Street Ministry sits in the heart of Center City Philly surrounded by high rise office buildings, fancy restaurants, expensive hotels and pricy designer shopping. The section of Broad Street that BSM is a part of is known as the Avenue of the Arts as it is home to many of Philly’s most prestigious theaters. However, BSM’s amazing location in the Historic Chambers-Wylie church building is most notable because of the amazing opportunity for ministry that it presents. At BSM they seek to move beyond a concept of simply doing good things to creating disciples who take to heart Christ’s call to love our neighbors and share the good news with our whole lives.

Our time in Philly will be an immersion experience where the goal is to engage with the people, issues and ministries of the city through service. We want to meet and develop authentic relationships with the poor and disadvantaged and those who are trying to make a difference in their community. We want to dive into discussions about the complex and difficult issues of poverty, homelessness, and hunger, all grounded within a Biblical framework. We want to encounter the presence of Christ alongside the marginalized and explore the radical challenge of living out the Christian faith in our everyday life.

While in Philly we will be working with various ministries in the city who are meeting the needs of the poor. Groups will visit places such as the Philabundance Food Pantry, The Manna Food Bank, the New Jerusalem Now Recovery Center, or serving at Broad Street in one of the ministries they run. Our days will be packed full of service and our evenings will be spent debriefing the day through reading God’s word and discussing the issues and people that we encountered throughout the day.

We will be staying at the BSM facility where we will be sleeping on the floor and showering off site. The BSM facility is in a safe area and the BSM staff are serious about taking all appropriate precautions with the building we are staying in as well as when we are traveling in the city to keep everyone safe.

$100 deposit due by March 3rd. ($20 Late fee to sign up afterwards)

As with all the activities we do here at APC we never want money to be the reason students don’t participate in an activity. If cost is an issue please talk to Scott so we can work out a solution that works for you!
